How Long Do Chemical Peels Last?

Chemical Peels will always be a great option if you want an amazing glow and fast results in a short amount of time. Whether you have a big event coming up or a short break during the day, Chemical Peels are great for any situation and any skin type!

That's why Dan Marino, one of our aestheticians and Laser and Light specialist at SpaDerma Lakeview, loves to recommend them to all his patients. Let Dan tell you a little more about how long Chemical Peels last.

One of the most common questions we get asked by patients when it comes to Chemical Peels is “how long does a Chemical Peel last?” The answer depends on many factors including the type of acid used and depth of peel. There are three types of peels:

    1. Superficial Peels are the mildest type of peel and help to remove the outer most layer of the skin, the epidermis.

    2. Medium Peels use stronger acids to penetrate deeper into the skin, reaching the middle layer of skin known as the dermis.

    3. Deep Peels are the strongest type of peel available. They use Phenol or TCA to reach the deepest layer of skin, the subcutaneous tissue.

A light superficial peel may only last for a week or two, depending on your skin type, while deeper peels can provide results that last for months. If you have a big event coming up, we recommend getting a peel about two weeks in advance to allow your skin time to recover. For best results, we also recommend getting a series of peels spaced out every four to six weeks.

The treatment itself is quick with almost no downtime. The treatment lasts about 30 minutes, but the peeling process can take up to two weeks. During that time, it is important to avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen when outdoors.

Patients should also be aware that results from a Chemical Peel are not permanent. The skin will eventually go back to its original state, which means that wrinkles and other signs of aging will eventually reappear. To maintain the results of a Chemical Peel, patients may need to have periodic treatments. The frequency of these treatments will depend on the individual’s skin type and condition.

    So Are Chemical Peels Safe?

Don't worry! When we say Chemical Peels use different acids, it's not the kind you think!

Chemical peels are generally safe when performed by a qualified dermatologist or cosmetologist. However, as with any cosmetic procedure, there is always a risk of side effects, such as skin irritation, redness, and swelling. These side effects usually disappear within a few days after the peel is performed. If you are considering a Chemical Peel, be sure to talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits before scheduling an appointment.

What outcome can you expect with Chemical Peels?

Chemical Peels can improve the skin's appearance in a number of ways. They can:

    -reduce fine lines and wrinkles

-improve the look of mild scars

    -treat certain types of acne

    -even out the skin tone
