    ABC’s of Skincare

The ABC’s of skin care are as easy as 123! Grab your pencil and paper to take notes because we will be explaining the benefits of including AHA’s, BHA’s and Vitamin C ingredients in skincare.  “A” is for AHA’s that help exfoliate the skin. “B” is for BHA that helps clean pores. “C” is for Vitamin C that helps brighten the skin and protect against free radicals like environmental stressors and pollution. Skincare doesn’t need to be complicated. Everything is possible with the right Aesthetician and SpaDerma, of course!

    Let’s start with A!

    AHA: Alpha Hydroxy Acids

    • Dissolve the protein bonds on the skin, which aids in exfoliation.
    • Lactic and Glycolic Acid are the most commonly used.
    • In an at-home-routine, AHA's can be used daily in low percentages or rinse-off products.
    • In the treatment room, higher percentage AHA's are what make our chemical peels!

    BHA: Beta Hydroxy Acids

    • Oil Soluble: helps to clear out pores
    • Amazing for whiteheads and blackheads
    • Salicylic Acid is the most common BHA- but beware if you have an aspirin allergy!
    • Salicylic Acid is great for oily skin. If you're on the dryer side and still want the benefits of Salicylic Acid, try our PCAskin Dry Skin Relief Bar.

    C is for Vitamin C!

    Vitamin C
    Your SPFs BFF!

    • Helps prevent damage from UVA/UVB rays
    • Stabilizes free-radicals
    • Brightens, Lightens, and Tightens

    Virginia Vitale of spaderma

West Loop Aesthetician, Virginia Vitale explains, “Vitamin C is the BLT of skincare; it brightens, lightens and tightens. Not only do we love that, but Vitamin C also protects our skin from damaging UVA Aging Rays and UVB Burning Rays. So when your SPF needs backup, Vitamin C is there! Vitamin C is really the true MVP, especially when it comes to free radicals. Free radicals are unstable electrons that steal from our skin, causing aging and oxidation. Vitamin C gives free radicals the electron they need so our skin is left to glow!”
