Great skin doesn’t just happen during in-spa treatments at SpaDerma, it happens at home with the right skincare routine and a customized plan. After receiving in-spa treatments like a chemical peel, our patients ask if they should use their over-the-counter cleanser or moisturizer from various beauty or drug stores. We always say yes, depending on the ingredients, but you won’t get the same results as when you are using medical-grade skincare products. Medical-grade skincare products go through rigorous testing to validate the claims they make. Therefore, when we say (or a product says) that this will noticeably reduce pore size, fine lines, etc. it’s because the product has been proven to do so! The formulas in medical-grade skincare are designed to reach deeper into the skin for more dramatic improvement. We have a saying that coming to SpaDerma is like going to see a fitness trainer, you can’t just go home and eat whatever you want to see results, the same rule applies to skincare.

    Why Medical Grade Skincare?

Medical-grade skincare products like Neocutis, PCAskin, or SkinBetter Science have unique formulas backed by physicians, chemists, and research-based science. The over-the-counter or drugstore skincare products usually do not have the same amount of restrictions to enforce proper delivery of ingredients or to validate their claims. At SpaDerma, we stress purchasing skincare from authorized vendors like us since there have been instances of patients looking for cheaper options online and end up purchasing counterfeit products that are potentially unauthorized or could be hazardous to your skin. We urge everyone to purchase through our website or in our spa locations.

    Best Post-Care Skincare Products

Most medical skincare treatments like the Skin Pen microneedling or chemical peels, will involve some downtime to reveal radiant skin. During that downtime, the products you use can either help enhance or hinder your treatment results depending on the ingredients used. If you’re looking to know what the best skincare products are after each treatment, here is a little guide:

    At-Home Skincare Regimen

We’ve stressed the importance before but having a customized skincare regimen that includes a cleanser, serum, moisturizer, retinol, and sunscreen is the most important thing you can do for your skin at home. Maintaining your results from our advanced skincare treatments could be as simple as keeping up with a simple routine that one of our Aestheticians has customized for you. The first step of any skincare regimen involves a cleanser; depending on your skin type it can range from creamy to gel to help get rid of dirt and debris. The second step should include a serum. Antioxidants like SkinBetter Alto (Ashley’s favorite), SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic, or PCA SKIN C&E Advanced will help protect your skin from free radicals and any future damage from the sun, pollution, or environmental elements. A moisturizer is important to hydrate your skin and lock in moisture preventing fine lines. Retinol is a tried and true product that is a must have for your nighttime routine, and it's important to find the one that will give you the benefits and results! SPF is another absolute must (reapply every 2 hours)! You can read more about sunscreen on this blog post.

Make sure to schedule your complimentary consultation for your customized skincare plan! Some products are not recommended for all skin types, or for pregnant or nursing mommas, so it’s important to get in touch with one of our Aestheticians before diving in.
