SpaDerma: How long have you been interested in skincare and how long have you worked at SpaDerma?

Ashley Powers: I have been interested in skincare since I was in high school. I always had such fun getting my friends ready for dances and theater performances. From there it transpired into learning more about the skin itself. I have been an Aesthetician now for almost 12 years and I just hit 8 years this month with SpaDerma.

SD: What made you want to be in the aesthetics industry and why do you love it?

Ashley: I initially went to school for cosmetology, so I was licensed to perform hair, skin and nails. I had always been fascinated by the world of beauty and watching my two sisters grow up and playing with their makeup and lotions is really what started it all for me. Once I went back to school and learned how important it is to take care of your skin I really fell in love with it. Learning the intricate layers and how the skin functions and what may work for some but not others. I was always learning something new and it forced me to always be on my toes and think of other solutions. This is what eventually led to my second job with Spaderma as the Education Director. I try to impart this on all of the aestheticians I train to help them be the most successful.

SD: What is your favorite treatment:

Ashley: I love Chemical Peels! I think they are the single best thing you can do for your skin and are good for everyone. Everyone always looks rejuvenated after one of my customized chemical peels. A close second would have to be Vivace. Firming, tightening, smoothing, what's not to love? Honorable mention, the Environ A.C.E. Facial, and PRX.

SD: What is a fun fact about yourself?

Ashley: I am able to make my husband's family's Cardamom Coffee Cake which I was always told was so hard to make. The original recipe used words like some, a pinch, a bit and even though it is a Cardamom Coffee Cake, there was no cardamom listed in the recipe. Now I make it every year for the family.

SD: Any advice for a beginner to the industry or SpaDerma?

Ashley: Take advantage of learning opportunities and know the value of education. If you keep learning and keep growing you will never get bored or complacent.

    SD: Favorite skincare products?

    Ashley: Absolutely love:

    • Neocutis Bio Serum Firm
    • Neocutis Lumiere Eye
    • SkinBetter Alpharet
    • Environ AVST 3 Moisturizer
    • Skinceuticals Daily Brightening SPF

SD: Your AM + PM skincare routine?

    Ashley:

AM: I don't cleanse my face in the morning. I am so dry so cleansing in the morning genuinely destroys my face. If you have dry skin I encourage you to try this. Just rinse with water and wipe away. Then I do:

    • Neocutis BioSerum Firm
    • SkinBetter Alto Advanced
    • PCA Skin Resurfacing Serum
    • Neocutis Lumiere Firm eye cream
    • SkinBetter Trio
    • SkinBetter Techno Neck
    • SkinBetter Tone Smart Lotion SPF 75 (on face)
    • Skinceuticals Daily Brightening SPF (on neck)

    PM:

    • PCA Creamy Cleanser, Neocutis BioSerum Firm, Skinceuticals Resveratrol BE, Skinbetter Alpharet (3x/week), Neocutis Lumiere Firm Eye, Skinbetter Techno Neck, Skinbetter Trio (currently, but other times Biocream BioCream Firm Riche) When I am not using Alpharet I use the Environ Tri-Bio Botanical Revival Mask- it's a face lift in a jar!
    • PCA Skin Creamy Cleanser
    • Neocutis BioSerum Firm
    • Skinceuticals Resveratrol BE
    • SkinBetter Alpharet (3x/week)
    • Neocutis Lumiere Firm eye cream
    • SkinBetter Techno Neck
    • SkinBetter Trio
    • Sometimes: Environ Tri-Bio Botanical Revival Mask (it's a face lift in a jar!)

SD: Any tips or advice for anyone starting out in aesthetics?

Ashley: Too often I see people enter this industry expecting it to be easy, when in reality it takes dedication to yourself and your craft to truly be at the top of your game. That being said, this industry is a lot of fun and it is wild that I get to do this for a living. So invest in yourself, have fun, and stay positive.
