    Skincare Flow Chart

A quick and easy guide to applying your skincare routine in the correct order

So, you left the spa with a bag full of skincare goodies and you’re ready to get glowing. When you were checking out, everything made sense and you thought for sure you were going to remember your new regimen!

But now you’re in your bathroom mirror and...not so much.

Have no fear! Our skincare application flowchart is your go-to guide to get the most out of your skincare routine. Your general rule of thumb is to apply your products from thinnest to thickest–but there are some exceptions. Commit these rules to memory and unlock your freshest, healthiest skin ever!

    CLEANSER ☀ + ☾

Make sure you don’t let a drop of serum or a dollop of moisturizer go to waste by ensuring your skin is fresh and clean. In or out of the shower, cleansing creates a blank canvas for your precious products to do their job. Day or night, this is a must!

    RETINOL CHECKPOINT!

Retinol products work to prompt skin regeneration, resulting in brighter and more even complexion. These products can be a bit more harsh on your skin, so depending on your experience level, you’ll only need to apply this 1-3 times per week. But when you do, you’ll want it to be the first thing on your face after cleansing to maximize its effect.

The same goes for any prescription topicals you may be using. You’ll want these products reaching as deep as possible– so make it the first layer!

SpaDerma Favorites: SkinBetter AlphaRet Overnight Cream | PCA Skin Retinol Treatment for Sensitive Skin

    TONER ☀ + ☾

Introducing a toner to your skincare routine is a great way to maximize your results in the long term. Through gentle exfoliation, toning allows your routine’s active ingredients to penetrate your skin more deeply, and leaves you with a super-vibrant glow!

    SERUM ☀ + ☾

Supercharged by highly concentrated ingredients, serums are powerful boosters that allow you to target a particular problem in your skin more than your standard routine would. Serums can calm redness, address hyperpigmentation, wake up dull skin, and more.

    MOISTURIZER ☀ + ☾

Keeping your skin hydrated is essential to preserving your delicate skin barrier, keeping your pores unclogged, and your complexion calm. A good moisturizer is the key to quenching thirsty skin– and because it tends to be one of the densest products in your regimen, you’ll want it to leave it for the end to lock in your work.

SpaDerma Favorites: Neocutis Bio Gel | SkinBetter Trio Rebalancing Moisture Treatment | iS Clinical Reparative Moisture Emulsion

    SPF ☀

All of the skincare goodness above won’t mean much if damaging UV rays undo it all. Generously applying an SPF throughout your day is a non-negotiable to tackle skin aging factors head-on.

SpaDerma Favorites: EltaMD UV Daily and UV Clear SPF

    FINISHERS AND MASKS

To really bring your routine to the next level, consider adding a finishing mist or an intensive mask. These can offer a luxurious boost to your skin, addressing plumpness, redness, or radiance issues.
